Welcome to The Villages at Carmans River
AvalonBay Communities, Inc. and Damianos Realty Group, LLC are excited to announce their status as finalist for designation on the Yaphank County Center site in Yaphank, Suffolk County, NY. The RFP issued by Suffolk County for the Yaphank site detailed that "visions for the site that strategically respond to unmet demand for housing, especially for young families, will be viewed favorably". AvalonBay has long been a pioneer in building "next generation" and "workforce" housing both on Long Island and throughout the nation. We are excited to be chosen as a finalist to help to provide a solution to the growing housing needs of many Long Islanders.
The absence of housing choices has already begun to limit economic growth on Long Island. For example, the bi-county area gained only 6,700 payroll jobs last year, well below the 41,800 new jobs created in 1999 and the 22,600 new jobs generated in 2000. Part of the problem is that local businesses cannot find the workers they need because young workers have left Long Island for areas that provide more affordable housing. The number of Long Islanders between ages 25 and 44 declined by 65,000 in just four years, 2000 through 2004.
We feel the Villages at Carmans River can play a pivotal role in stopping the "brain drain" on Long Island by providing affordable next generation housing as part of a planned mixed use development in Yaphank. AvalonBay Communities and Damianos Realty Group would like to partner with the County and the Community in making this dream a reality.
